Is it dawn or dusk in Darjeeling?

The summer heat has touched my skin so the political heat in the hills reached 100 degree even though the hills natural temperature was between 10- 15 degree. 179 young boys and girls fasted since 21st February and they resumed their normal diet from yesterday (Leap day). The Darjeeling Hill was emitting negative vibrations shouting against Subash Ghisingh now the positive notes are heard applauding Bimal Gurung. The village, towns, schools all came to life. There is jubilation, people are smiling, dancing and Leaping (29th February). The main reason behind this jubilation is for the moment the sate government of West Bengal came in term with the demand of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJMM). The demands were: 1. The agenda of 6th schedule which the state government in consensus with Subash Ghisingh (care taker administrator of Darjeeling Hill) had proposed to place in the parliament session is to be scraped. The standing committee under the chairmanship of Mrs. Sushma Swaraj reported that before placing the proposal of the 6th schedule status to Darjeeling Hills there is a need of in-depth assessment. The proposal was not placed in this parliament session. Victory No 1 for GJMM. Number 2 demand of GJMM was that the care taker administrator Mr. Subash Ghisingh who is the supremo of GNLF be immediately removed from the post. The state government (Chief Minister Buddadev Bhattacharjee) asked 10 days of time for the action to be completed. Victory no 2 for the GJMM.

In the past week Bengali Channel like Kolkata TV and Star Anand gave sufficient space for the GJMM leader Mr. Bimal Gurung to place his voice. Some of the statement of Gurung goes like this:

Ghisingh is a dangerous black cat (Kalo Biralo) (Note: there is a belief in the people that when a black cat crosses the road it is a unlucky sign (omen). Ghisingh is an omen for the hills). Because he is a black cat he has been running from Pintail village to Kolkata to Shantiniketan to Delhi.
Ghisingh is a poison for the hills. We will not allow him to enter Darjeeling.
If State government does not remove him by 10th March we will remove him from the post. [I do not understand how Ghisingh will be removed until and unless he is allowed to enter in the hills? Is GJMM fearful that if Ghisingh speaks something will happen? As of now people know the GJMM version of the story only. Thanks to I.N. Pradhan who spoke yesterday (not forcefully) that if Ghisingh will be ousted from the chair GNLF will start the agitation for Gorkhaland.]

The GJMM has partially achieved the short term goal they had set. Now what NEXT?
The way Gurung was talking did not reflect anything that has the strategy for achieving his higher goal that is Gorkhaland {He was angry when the journalist asked him what is his strategy for achieving Gorkhaland? He said do you want the answer in studio? It is my land and we have the strategy} He is much concern in punishing Ghisingh. He wanted to dig the account of 21 years. My concern is will this act keep him focused in the higher goal? Or is it the game plan of state government positioning its man in the hill replacing Ghisingh as Ghisingh had stopped listening to them. Will he be another Ghisingh craving to rule the hills and to distract the people allow the hills’ budget to be audited and penalize Ghisingh?If audit to take place it will take another three months for the team to form and another three month for the audit and report. Then another few years for punishing Ghisingh. So when will he work for the Gorkhaland? He said in the debate in TV channel that he will bring reformation in the tourism. How will he bring improvement in the sector until and unless he is in the position to rule? He also said that he is not thinking of election or issue of election does not arise at all. What is in his mind? Will the fight with GNLF shift to State and Central Government? People’s aspiration is Gorkhaland not another ruler in the DGHC.
There is a fear psychosis prevalent in the hills which are very evident from the membership shift from GNLF to GJMM. Pranay Rai, MLA from Darjeeling joined GJMM, Gaulan Lepcha, MLA from Kalimpong, is openly supporting GJMM and will certainly join it within the week. Roshan Lama ardent GNLF supporter from Pedong opened a new party in line with GJMM (he is prudent enough to keep himself at safe side by declaring a new party with the followers from his family only). He will flow along the tide of the river. GNSF has given an ultimatum that within the week if the party (GNLF) does not raise the issue of Gorkhaland and act on it will shift its membership.
People in the hills are looking at GJMM as a party who can deliver and fulfill the aspirations which people had seen in 1986. Will Gurung be able to deliver? A great challenge for him. The fish in the Ganges has started to swim towards the hill. Today CM is attending CITU’s meet at Siliguri. CPM wants to rebuild its lost glory in the hills. People of hills be careful Gurung could be another pawn in the hands of Kolkata and after another 21 years our children/ grand children will again say Gurung did not perform well. He is corrupt. He is a black cat. There will again born another Gurung or Ghisingh; no… it will be the turn of Rai.
Let Darjeeling not repeat the history of Rana in Nepal.
